Following the wise lead of Laura I am changing the title here to be more reflective of my focus. I have been at this long enough to recognize the kinds of things that I write about here. For some time I have felt that “Recovering Technophile” was not a very good fit. I tend to write about political and social issues more than technology, or even anti-technology. The only problem is that I haven’t thought of an acceptable title yet. Suggestions are more than welcome for both the Title and the Subtitle.
I like this line out of the Declaration of Independence, but candidworld.com is already taken.
“To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.”
Thanks for the suggestion Tyler. Since I am not actually planning on changing my url (it will still be davidjmiller.org) I might be able to use something like that.
Your blog is mostly about politices, improving local, national and international commmunities and generally improving everyone’s well-being and happiness and way of life. As I pondered your dilema, the movie 1776 came to mind. I heard Thomas Jefferson giving the reason for the Declaration of Independence to the Continental Congress, so I scanned the scene and found many good thoughts and suggestions. Here they are . . .
1. “On What Grounds?”
Everybody wants a good answer and good reasoning, you have those, so, tell us ‘on what grounds?’ should we change our minds or habits to benefit all?
2. Thomas Jefferson gave the reason for the Declaration of Independence as follows; “To place before man the common sense of the subject in terms so plain and firm as to command their assent.” I like this. I think it applies to any group of people trying in common to come to a good end and to make intelligent, wise, truth-driven decisions. That seems to be some of what you are doing, so I thought the quote applied. Yes, this is the original one I went looking for.
3. Moved and Seconded
Obviously from rules of order. Know that’s been important to you lately . . .
4. Speaking of accepting or rejecting the completed Declaration, ‘Written, debated approved.” Seems to mirror the process you promote . . .
5. This one is a little farther off, but still ties, Thomas Jefferson again, “And we solemnly declare that we will preserve our liberties being with one mind resolved to die free men rather than to live as slaves.” The Necessity of Taking Up Arms, 1775.
6. A Political Dialogue with the Founding Father and we, their descendents?? “Dear Mr. Jefferson” (or some other early figure?)
Hope this helps somewhere . . . all love 😉
Thanks for the suggestions. I think there is some real promise among those.
My current working title, “Cause of Liberty,” refers to liberty (or the promotion of individual liberty) as my primary purpose and also to the fact that I hope to discuss those things which cause (or bring about) liberty. I’m not settled on it, but I can see that your ideas elicit some of the same concepts and images.
